About GFCSI

The Green Finance & Climate Strategy Institute (GFCSI) is a pan-African public-interest strategy, research and institutional development institute headquartered in Mogadishu, Somalia. We work to strengthen the institutions, knowledge systems, governance arrangements and financing frameworks that enable African countries to advance resilient and inclusive green transitions.

Our work connects climate, nature and sustainable finance with applied research, institutional capability and international cooperation.

Why We Exist

Africa's environmental and development ambitions depend on institutions that can turn commitments into decisions, financing and implementation. Public institutions face demanding responsibilities across climate policy, biodiversity, sustainable finance, environmental governance and international negotiations.

GFCSI exists to support the capabilities behind that work: credible evidence, clear responsibilities, effective coordination, sound financing frameworks and informed policy choices.

Governance & Leadership

GFCSI's governance and executive leadership support its public-interest mission, institutional direction and programme development. The Board provides oversight and strategic guidance, while the Executive Director leads management and delivery.

Professor Mohamed Ahmed Jimale
Chairman of the Board
Professor Mohamed Ahmed Jimale is Chairman of the Board of the Green Finance & Climate Strategy Institute (GFCSI) and former Rector of Somali National University. He brings extensive experience in academic leadership, research and institutional development, including international cooperation in higher education.
As Board Chairman, he provides governance oversight and strategic guidance, supporting GFCSI’s mission to strengthen the institutions, knowledge systems and financing frameworks that underpin Africa’s green transition.
Ahmed Giumale
Executive Director
Ahmed Giumale is Executive Director of the Green Finance & Climate Strategy Institute (GFCSI). An electrical engineer and renewable energy expert, he brings more than 25 years of experience spanning energy systems, infrastructure development, climate policy and technical advisory work. His experience includes assignments with Somali government institutions, UNOPS, the European Union Delegation to Somalia and GIZ.
As Executive Director, he leads GFCSI’s institutional development, programmes and partnerships, drawing on his engineering and policy experience to advance the institute’s work on climate finance, research, governance and Africa’s green transition.
